Detective Kent Haws was shot and killed while investigating suspicious activity in the area of Avenue 344 and Road 156 at approximately 1:40 pm.
Detective Haws was checking out a vehicle on the west shoulder of Road 156, which is bordered on both sides of the road by orange groves, when he was approached by an individual. The detective was transported to Kaweah Delta Hospital in Visalia where he died from his injuries at 3:20 pm.
A suspect was taken into custody later in the afternoon and held on suspicion of murder.
Detective Haws had served with the agency for 10 years. He is survived by his Parents. wife and three young children.
